The new design for the Canalside building

On the south end of Donovan Block, people will be treated to one of Benderson Development’s new projects. It will be a five-story building, which will be located on the north side of Scott Street, just between Main and Washington. Landmarks are a Tim Hortons right across the street and (716) Food and Sport in Harborcenter.

The ground floor along Main Street will be retail space that takes up around 7,380 square feet, and a restaurant along Washington that will be around 6,000 square feet. The second floor will be for offices. The total area will be 13,000 square feet. Residential units will be constructed from the third to the fifth level – 16 units all in all (14 one-bedroom and a single two-bedroom unit per floor).

The initial concept of the building shows it primarily made of brick and stone. The idea is to match the building itself with the rich and classic history and aura of the Canal District. Although there is no architect attached to the project as of now, Fontanese Folts Aubrecht Ernst is said to be the frontrunner. For those not familiar, Fontanese Folts Aubrecht Ernst is a firm from Orchard Park that has worked alongside Benderson before, on the One Canalside property.
